KitchenAid KICU265H Island Hood Repair

The KICU265H is an island mount range hood with a 600 CFM exhaust rating, also sold as the KICU265HSS. It hangs from the ceiling over an island cooktop, with no wall behind it, so it catches grease from all sides.
Island hoods are harder to reach, so we plan the visit: a ladder, the filters out first, then access to the blower. A weak hood is often a clogged filter or a greasy wheel, and the duct that runs up through the ceiling matters too. A squeal means the bearing, and a switch that does not respond is tested on each speed.
We also check that the hood is mounted solidly, since vibration loosens the lights and trim. The price is written before parts are ordered, and our repair carries a 30-day workmanship warranty.
A little movement can come from an unbalanced blower wheel. We clean the wheel and check the mounts and the chimney connections. Anything loose is tightened.
Clogged filters or a restriction in the duct are the usual cause. An island hood is also affected by drafts. We clean the filters and check airflow in the duct.
Usually yes. The blower and filters are reached from below, so the hood stays hung. If the housing is stuck, we remove only what is necessary to reach the part.
