KitchenAid KXU8036Y Canopy Hood Repair

The KXU8036Y is a 36-inch under-cabinet canopy hood from the Commercial Style line, and it is also sold as the KXU8036YSS. It usually hangs over a 36-inch range or cooktop, with its 600 CFM internal blower pushing air through a duct run to the outside wall or roof.
Years of frying take a toll on the slide control and the blower wheel. Grease slowly coats the wheel, throws it off balance and makes the motor work harder, so the hood gets louder while it moves less air. We open the canopy, check how the slide control moves through its three speeds, spin the blower by hand and look at the duct damper before we order anything.
You get the price in writing before any work starts, and our repair carries a 30-day workmanship warranty.
If the fan hums but barely pulls air, or rattles at every speed, the wheel is probably caked with grease or the motor is wearing out. We spin it by hand with the power off and check the duct damper, since a stuck damper can mimic a weak blower.
The slide control is a mechanical switch with contacts that wear and collect grease residue. When it sticks between positions, the fan may stay on a single speed or not start. We test each of the three positions with a meter and replace the control if the contacts fail.
Check them monthly if you cook with oil often. Heavy grease slows the 600 CFM blower and can drip onto the cooktop. Remove the filters and wash them in hot soapy water, then let them dry fully before putting them back.
