On KitchenAid induction cooktops such as the KCIG550JSS, the word Lock on the display means the Control Lock is switched on. The feature is there so nobody starts a surface cooking area by accident, for example a child or a pet. When the lock is engaged while the cooktop has no power, the cooktop stays locked out and no cooking area will heat. The message is informational and does not mean anything is broken.
1. Look at the display and confirm that Lock is showing. 2. Use the lock key sequence for your model to release it. 3. If it will not release, switch the breaker off for a minute and on again. 4. If Lock stays on, call us.
The Control Lock is engaged, which blocks every cooking area on purpose. Nothing heats until you release the lock with the key sequence for your model, so check the display before suspecting a failed part.
Yes. A lock that was on when power dropped is still on when power returns, and the cooktop starts out locked. Release it the same way you set it, then start your zone as usual.
The key may be dirty, or the touchpad may be failing. Clean the panel, reset power once and try again. If it still does not respond, we should inspect the touchpad.
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
