The "U u" symbol on KitchenAid induction cooktops such as the KICU509 and KICU569 series means the cooktop does not accept the pan on the selected zone. The pot may not be suitable for induction, may sit off-center, or may be the wrong size for that cooking area. If no pot is detected within about 30 seconds, the zone stops heating, so you see the symbol and no heat.
1. Switch the zone off and remove the pan. 2. Hold a magnet to the pan base; if it does not stick firmly, use a different pan. 3. Check that the base is flat, dry and clean. 4. Center the pan on the marked circle and pick a zone close to its size. 5. Turn the zone on again.
It tells you the zone does not detect a usable pan. The pot may be non-magnetic, off-center or the wrong size. The cooktop will not heat until it senses a suitable pan.
Hold a magnet against the base. A strong pull means the pan works on induction. If the magnet barely sticks, the pan will keep triggering this symbol on any zone.
Try another zone and a fresh pan first. If it persists, schedule a visit; we diagnose the zone, give a written price first, and our work is covered for 30 days.
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
