On KitchenAid vent hoods with a display that can run in recirculating mode with a charcoal filter, a C shown while the fan runs means the charcoal filter needs cleaning. The hood counts 120 hours of fan operation before showing it. The hood is working as designed; the letter is a filter reminder. Wash and reactivate the charcoal filter, then reset the reminder from the control.
1. Turn the hood off and let the light and fan stop. 2. Remove the charcoal filter. 3. Wash and reactivate it as the filter instructions describe. 4. Refit it. 5. Press and hold FAN for 3 seconds to reset. In vented mode, pressing + and - together disables the alarm. If C returns right after a reset, call us.
After 120 hours of fan operation the display shows C while the fan runs. That is the signal to wash and reactivate the charcoal filter, and it only matters if your hood recirculates air through one.
After cleaning the filter, press and hold FAN for 3 seconds. The reminder then clears and the hour count starts again from zero, so C will not return until another 120 hours of use.
In vented mode the alarm can be disabled by pressing + and - together. If your hood runs in recirculating mode, keep the reminder switched on and clean the filter when it shows.
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
