What F56 means

On KitchenAid induction cooktops such as the KICU569XSS, F56 means there may be a problem with the User Interface (Touchpad) or the wiring that serves it. The touchpad is the glass control strip you use to pick zones and power levels. When it or its cable misbehaves, keys can go dead or the cooktop can shut down showing the code. Expect the keys to be unreliable.

Common causes of F56

  • The touchpad has failed
  • The cable between the touchpad and the board is loose or damaged
  • A connector with corrosion or heat marks
  • A power disturbance that upset the touchpad
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Turn off all zones and clear the glass of anything on the controls. 2. Switch the breaker off for a minute, then back on. 3. Press a key and watch whether the cooktop responds. 4. A returning F56 is our cue: stop using the cooktop and ring us.

! Why to stop there
  • The touchpad cable runs under the glass next to live parts.
  • Replacing a touchpad needs a part matched to your model.
  • A written quote precedes any work, and repairs carry 30 days of warranty.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

F56F56 questions
What is the User Interface on my cooktop?

It is the touch strip, usually along the front edge, where you pick zones and heat. F56 says that strip, or its wiring, may not be working properly.

Is F56 caused by water on the glass?

A spill can upset a touchpad, but that normally produces pressure codes. F56 points at the electronics, so we expect a hardware check rather than a wipe-down.

Is the touchpad expensive to replace?

Prices vary by model. We confirm the part number, give you a written price and only then order it, so you can decide before any money is spent.
