KitchenAid KXW8748Y Wide Canopy Hood

KitchenAid range hood

Most common issues on this model

  1. Noisy motor or weak draw
  2. Controls out of step with the fan
  3. Saturated filters
  4. Dead lamps

At 48 inches wide, the KXW8748Y is built for large ranges and range-top setups, and it is also sold as the KXW8748YSS. Part of the Commercial Style series, it is a wall mount canopy with optional blowers from 600 to 1200 CFM and a 108K BTU threshold.

A wide canopy collects plenty of grease, so we start with the filters and the inside of the canopy before reaching the blower. We test the controls, spin the wheel, check for a vibrating housing and trace the duct for a loose joint. On a hood this size, a small duct leak or a sticky damper makes a bigger difference than on a narrow one. Hood width also matters for filter care: a 48-inch canopy carries several filters, and one saturated panel is enough to unbalance airflow across the whole cooking surface.

Our price is in writing before we start, and the repair is covered by a 30-day workmanship warranty.

KXW8748YKXW8748Y questions
Do wide hoods like the KXW8748Y need more frequent filter cleaning?

They have more filter area, so cleaning every month or two is usually enough, but heavy searing or frying shortens that. Look for grease drips at the filter edges as the sign to clean.

The fan seems weaker than before. Is the blower worn out?

Maybe, but we check the filters and damper first. Grease buildup on the wheel or a restricted duct often accounts for the loss before the motor itself is to blame.

Can you replace the lights in a canopy hood without removing it?

Normally yes. We reach the lamps from beneath or through the canopy interior, so the hood stays on the wall. If a socket is heat-damaged or the wiring is brittle, we replace that part as well, because a new bulb alone will not last.
