KitchenAid KERC500E Electric Range Repair

The KERC500E is a freestanding electric range with four radiant cooktop elements, also sold as the KERC500EAL1 and KERC500EWH0. It is among the older KitchenAid ranges still in use, so parts are often wear items that need a careful match.
On the cooktop, each radiant element is controlled by an infinite switch. A zone that never heats or never turns down means we test the element first and the switch next. In the oven, hinges and gasket loosen, the lock can hang up after self-clean, and a relay on the control board can fail and cut a single function. Because the range is old, we also look at the terminal block and wiring for heat damage.
The price is written before work begins, and repairs have a 30-day workmanship warranty.
With the power off, we test the element for continuity. If it reads good, we test the switch for output at each knob position. Whichever part fails is replaced, and we leave the good one in place.
If the frame, oven cavity and wiring are in good shape, repairing a single element, switch or lock is often sensible. We tell you plainly what we find before work starts.
Dark, brittle or melted plastic at the power connection. It can cause intermittent heat loss in elements, and we replace it when we see damage.
