KitchenAid KIRD862H Downdraft Vent Repair, 36 Inch

The KIRD862H, also sold as the KIRD862HSS, is a 36-inch downdraft ventilation system with an external power system and variable fan control. Installed beside or behind a cooktop, it pulls smoke downward instead of up into a hood, so it works against rising heat and needs its filter and duct to stay clean.
We begin with the filter and the vent opening, then test the blower at each speed and listen for rumble. Because the blower unit is external, we also check its power connection and the duct run beneath the cabinet for grease or kinks. We also run the vent through a full raise and lower cycle, since a track that drags often squeals before it stops.
You receive a written price before we begin, and a 30-day workmanship warranty covers the repair.
The raising mechanism may be dirty or binding, or its motor may be weakening. We clean the tracks, check the drive and replace the motor if it will not travel the full distance.
The filter first, then the duct below the cabinet and the external blower. Grease coats the wheel and narrows airflow, and clearing it often restores strong suction without any parts.
Even without frying, steam and moisture carry dust into the filter. A monthly look keeps it clear, and a light wash every few months is enough.
