KitchenAid built-in dishwashers with the F#E# control, including the KDTM404KPS and KDFE104HPS, report F8E4 when water is found in the base. The drain sequence starts, and the machine will not operate. The display shows F8E4. The published checks are the water supply connection, that the float switch is connected, and an empty drip tray. The dishwasher will not accept a new start until the situation is resolved.
1. Turn off the water supply. 2. Let the drain sequence finish with the door closed. 3. Check the supply connection under the sink and behind the dishwasher for drips. 4. Dry the area around the base. 5. Restore water, run a short cycle, and call us if F8E4 returns.
The dishwasher found water where it should not be and begins draining as a protection. It also blocks operation until the problem is dealt with.
The supply connection, the float switch connection and any water in the tray under the dishwasher. Dry everything and try again. Tracing it may mean looking behind the kick plate.
When F8E4 returns after those checks. We trace the leak or sensor issue, quote in writing, and warrant our repair for 30 days. Quotes in writing mean no surprises on the bill.
