KitchenAid Smoothtop Range Codes C81, C82 and C83: Cooktop overheat shutoff

What C81, C82 or C83 means

On KitchenAid electric smoothtop and induction ranges, for instance the KSEG700ESS, KFEG500ESS or KSIB900ESS, the codes C81, C82 and C83 tell you the cooking surface got too hot and the automatic shutoff stepped in. If the oven is running, switch it off, give the surface 5 minutes to cool, then turn the cooktop on again and make sure it works.
