KitchenAid electric radiant touch-control cooktops, for example the KCES550HSS, give F22 for an internal communication error on the touch control module. The touch side and the power side of the control cannot exchange information, and the cooktop reacts with the code. Expect keys that do nothing or a cooktop that will not heat until power is reset. It reads the same way as F03 and F13 on these cooktops.
1. Switch all cooking areas off. 2. Turn the breaker off for about a minute, then back on. 3. Watch the display for a minute to confirm the code is gone. 4. If F22 appears again, leave it and call us.
It is the electronics behind the glass keys that read your touches and pass them to the power board. F22 means the two sides cannot talk to each other.
A communication error itself does not usually harm the cooktop, but it can leave it unusable. A repeating one deserves a repair before another part is affected.
Cleaning is harmless but unlikely to help, since F22 is about internal communication rather than a held key. A reset is the right first move.
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
