On KitchenAid over-the-range microwave hood combinations such as the KMHS120ESS or KMLS311HSS, E23 says there may be a problem with the heater, the appliance control board, or the associated wiring. The heater supports convection or browning on models that have it. If the heater or the board feeding it falters, the microwave posts E23 and may stop cooking.
1. Press Cancel and let the unit cool with the door open. 2. Unplug it for a minute and plug it in again. 3. Try a plain microwave run with a cup of water. 4. If the code returns when you try heating, stop and call us.
Only some models include a convection or browning heater. If yours does not have one, the code still refers to the control's heating circuit, which a technician will check.
Often, because they run on separate circuits. Tell us what still works when you call.
Sometimes. Because the code involves the board, we advise waiting for an inspection.
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
