What E24 means

On KitchenAid over-the-range microwaves such as the KMHS120ESS, KMHC319ESS or KHMS155LSS, E24 lists four possible causes: the thermal sensor, the gas sensor, the appliance control board, or the associated wiring. It is the broadest of the E2x sensor codes, so we test the sensors before the board. The microwave may stop cooking and keep the code on the display.

Common causes of E24

  • Thermal sensor out of range
  • Gas sensor not reporting
  • Control board misreading inputs
  • Wiring loose between the sensors and the board
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Press Cancel and wipe the cavity dry. 2. Let the unit sit with the door open for ten minutes. 3. Disconnect power for sixty seconds, then reconnect it. 4. Try a timed run with a cup of water. 5. If E24 comes back, call us.

! Why to stop there
  • More possible causes mean testing is more important
  • Replacing parts in a guessing order is expensive
  • Price in writing first, with a 30-day workmanship warranty
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

E24E24 questions
Why does E24 have four causes listed?

The control saw a condition that two different sensors and the board could each explain. Testing separates them.

Where do you start?

With the wiring and the sensors, since they are cheaper to confirm than the board.

Is the stove below affected?

No, the range works independently. If you ever smell natural gas, leave and call the gas utility from outside.
