What F1 E5 means

On KitchenAid combination microwave-wall ovens like the KOCE500ESS, KOCE507ESS or KOCE900HSS, F1 E5 means there may be a problem with the microwave inverter, the magnetron tube, or the wiring to them. These parts generate the microwave energy in the upper cavity. When one weakens, the cavity heats poorly or stops, and the display shows the code.

Common causes of F1 E5

  • Microwave inverter not producing proper output
  • Magnetron tube worn or failed
  • Wiring to the inverter or magnetron damaged
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Press Cancel. 2. Make sure the cavity is empty except for a cup of water for testing. 3. Switch off the breaker for a minute, then restore. 4. Run the microwave for thirty seconds. 5. If F1 E5 shows again, or the water stays cold, stop and call us.

! Why to stop there
  • Inverters and magnetrons hold dangerous high voltage even when the oven is off
  • Only a technician with proper tools can test them safely
  • We provide a written price before work, and our repair carries a 30-day warranty
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

F1 E5F1 E5 questions
Why does the microwave run but not heat?

The control may still start the fan and lights while the inverter or magnetron fails to generate energy. The F1 E5 code reports exactly that kind of loss.

Can I run the cavity empty to test it?

Never. An empty microwave can damage the magnetron. Use a cup of water as the test load.

Is repair worth it on an older combination oven?

Usually yes when the oven is otherwise sound. We diagnose first, quote the exact price, and let you decide.
