What F1 E6 means

KitchenAid combination microwave-wall ovens, such as the KOCE500ESS, KOCE507ESS and KOCE900HSS, show F1 E6 when the microwave thermistor or sensor, or the associated wiring, may have a problem. The upper cavity uses that temperature reading to protect itself. With the reading gone, the control stops microwave cooking and shows the code on the display.

Common causes of F1 E6

  • Microwave thermistor reading out of range
  • Sensor connector or wiring loose
  • Control not receiving a proper sensor signal
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Press Cancel and let the unit sit with the door closed for a few minutes. 2. Switch the breaker off for a minute and on again. 3. Run a thirty-second test with a cup of water. 4. If F1 E6 returns, leave the microwave unused and arrange service.

! Why to stop there
  • Sensor readings must be measured with instruments
  • Opening the cavity wall risks contact with high-voltage parts
  • You get the price in writing before work and a 30-day workmanship warranty afterward
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

F1 E6F1 E6 questions
What does the thermistor do in the microwave cavity?

It measures temperature so the control can keep the cavity within safe limits. F1 E6 says that reading may be unreliable.

Could a hot kitchen trigger F1 E6?

Not by itself. A high room temperature does not change the thermistor, though a reset after cool-down is a fair first step.

Is the lower oven affected?

Typically no, since the code is specific to the microwave side. We still verify the whole unit during the visit.
