KitchenAid built-in microwaves and combination wall ovens, for example the KMBP100ESS and KOCE500ESS, can display F2 E4 to report a possible problem with the user interface or keypad, the control, or the associated wiring. The oven may beep, freeze on the code, or refuse to start. Among the F2 codes, E4 uses identical official wording to E0 through E6.
1. Press Cancel. 2. Dry the panel gently. 3. Flip the breaker off for a minute and back on. 4. Wait until the display lights and set the clock. 5. If F2 E4 returns, leave the oven alone and call.
Not by the official description. All the F2 keypad codes share the same wording, so severity depends on what the technician finds, not the digit.
Better to use a barely damp cloth. Sprays can run into the panel edges and make the problem worse.
We look at the connections and the keypad signals, then the control. That order costs less and avoids replacing a board that is fine.
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
