KitchenAid Over-the-Range Microwave Code FC E1: Wi-Fi link timed out

What FC E1 means

On KitchenAid over-the-range microwave hood combinations such as the KMHS120ESS or KMLS311HSS, FC E1 is a connectivity message. The microwave could not complete its network link because of a connection time-out, weak signal, a failing router, the appliance's own Wi-Fi module, or the wiring to that module. Cooking itself usually still works; the smart features do not. Smart features and remote start stop responding.

Connection to the router timed out
Poor Wi-Fi signal strength at the microwave's location
Router that has failed or needs a restart
Wi-Fi module in the appliance, or its wiring

1. Restart your router and modem, and wait for them to come fully online. 2. Check that other devices near the kitchen get a good signal. 3. Press Cancel on the microwave, then disconnect its power for one minute and restore it. 4. Reconnect the appliance in the app. If FC E1 returns while the router works fine for everything else, call us.

Can I still heat food while FC E1 shows?

Usually yes. The code concerns the Wi-Fi link, not the heating system. Plain timed cooking from the keypad should work, while remote start and app features are unavailable.

Is the router really the problem?

Very often, since time-outs and weak signal are on the list before the module. Test other devices in the kitchen and restart the router first.

When should I call?

Call if the router is strong, the reset is done, and FC E1 still returns. At that point the module or its wiring is the likely cause.
