What F36, F37 means

On KitchenAid induction cooktops, for example the KCIG550JSS and KICU509XSS, F36 and F37 both point to a possible problem with a temperature sensor on an induction coil. Note that the same numbers mean a communication problem on radiant models. On induction units the cooktop loses its heat reading for a zone, and that zone may shut down or refuse to start.

Common causes of F36, F37

  • A coil temperature sensor that has failed
  • Wiring to the sensor that is damaged
  • A connection at the board that no longer makes contact
  • Heat damage near the coil
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Turn all zones off and let the glass cool. 2. Turn the circuit breaker off for a minute, then restore it. 3. Test the affected zone with a flat induction pan. 4. If F36 or F37 returns, stop using that zone and call us.

! Why to stop there
  • The sensor sits against the coil under the glass.
  • Replacing it correctly takes the right part and a careful procedure.
  • We quote first in writing and back our work with 30 days.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

F36, F37F36, F37 questions
Do F36 and F37 mean different things?

On induction cooktops they are grouped together as a coil temperature sensor concern. The two numbers probably refer to different sensors or zones, which we sort out during testing.

Why would a sensor stop one zone?

The cooktop watches coil temperature to protect itself. If it cannot read the sensor, it plays safe and disables the zone instead of risking overheating.

My neighbor's radiant cooktop shows F36 too. Is it the same?

No. On radiant touch-control cooktops, F36 is a communication code. The meaning depends on the type of cooktop, so we match the code to your exact model.
