What H - Residual Heat means

On KitchenAid induction cooktops such as the KICU509XSS, an H on the display means the cooking zone is hot. The indicator lights even if the zone was never switched on, because it can be warmed by an adjacent zone or by a hot pan that was set down on it. It is a safety marker, not an error, and it goes out as the glass cools.

Common causes of H - Residual Heat

  • Heat from a pan that was just removed
  • Heat spreading from an adjacent zone
  • A hot pan or pot resting on the zone
  • A residual heat reading that never clears
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Leave the zone alone until the H goes out. 2. Remove hot pans and keep children and pets away. 3. Do not wipe spills near the zone until it has cooled. 4. If H stays lit for hours on cold glass, call us.

! Why to stop there
  • An H that never clears means the sensing of heat is off.
  • That sensing is under the glass.
  • The repair is priced in writing first and covered for 30 days.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

H - Residual HeatH - Residual Heat questions
Why does H light up on a zone I never turned on?

Induction heats the pan, but a hot pan warms the glass under it, and heat spreads sideways to neighboring zones. The H warns you that the glass is hot even if that zone is off.

How long until H disappears?

It depends on how hot the pan was and how long it sat there. Usually the marker goes out within a short time after the glass reaches a safe temperature.

Can I cook while H is showing on another zone?

Yes. The H only applies to the zone showing it. Just avoid touching the glass there and do not place plastic or cloth on it.
