What E62 means

On KitchenAid over-the-range microwaves such as the KMHS120ESS, KMHC319ESS or KHMS155LSS, E62 reports a possible problem with a sensor, the appliance control board, or the wiring. It sits between E61 and E63 in a trio of identical official wording. The microwave shows the code and usually refuses sensor programs, and sometimes all cooking.

Common causes of E62

  • A sensor in the cooking-monitor circuit failing
  • Control board reading it incorrectly
  • Wiring between the sensor and the board damaged
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Cancel the program. 2. Check that the door seal and cavity are clean and dry. 3. Pull the plug for a minute, then reconnect. 4. Try a short timed cycle with water. 5. A returning E62 means you should stop and call us.

! Why to stop there
  • The cause could be a part or a connection, and only a test shows which
  • Mounting above the range makes the unit awkward for non-professionals
  • A written price comes before any work and a 30-day warranty covers it
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

E62E62 questions
Is E62 more serious than E61?

Not by the official wording. The digits identify separate checks, but the descriptions and the steps are the same.

Why is the wiring included?

A loose connector can mimic a failed sensor. Checking it first can save a part.

What if the code only appears sometimes?

An intermittent code usually still means a developing problem. Tell us when it appears, because that helps us find it.
