Combination microwave-wall ovens from KitchenAid, among them the KOCE500ESS and KOCE900HSS, display F1 E3 when the microwave appliance manager, or its wiring, may have a problem. The appliance manager is the electronic board that runs the upper microwave cavity. When it is out of range, the microwave side shuts down while the display stays on.
1. Press Cancel. 2. Shut off power at the oven's breaker for a full minute. 3. Turn it back on and see if the clock appears. 4. Test the lower oven briefly. 5. If F1 E3 returns, leave the microwave side unused and call us.
It switches and monitors the microwave side: power relays, door status and cooking timing. F1 E3 flags that this board or its wires may be misbehaving.
Usually not directly, because the lower oven has its own control. We still check both during a visit.
It might clear a brief glitch. If the code returns, the board or its connection has a lasting issue and needs a technician.
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
