Code 4d22 in KitchenAid's lower-case set says there may be a problem with an airflow restriction, the oven cooling fan, or the wiring. It is the partner of 4d21, and no model number goes with it. The oven may run hot on the outside, or you may hear no fan after turning it on, along with the code on the display.
1. Switch off the oven. 2. Allow cooldown. 3. Check that vents are clear of towels, foil and boxes. 4. Cycle the breaker off for 60 seconds, then on. 5. Start a short bake and listen for the fan; if 4d22 returns, call us.
It concerns cooling. Running the oven without good airflow can stress the electronics, so we recommend a check before further use, even though the oven may still heat.
It runs during oven use on many ranges. If you hear nothing after starting a bake, mention that when you call, because it helps us decide what to bring.
Dust and grease can build up. Clean around the vents with the range off and cool, then see if the code clears. If it returns, the fan or wiring is next.
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
