On KitchenAid freestanding and slide-in ranges, such as the KFEG500ESS, KFGG500ESS or KSEG700ESS, F05 points to the oven door latch assembly, the door switch, or the wiring that serves them. The latch tells the control whether the door is closed and locked. With F05 on the display, the door may not lock or unlock as expected, and cleaning or baking cycles may not start.
1. Press Cancel and make sure the oven is off and cool. 2. Open and close the oven door firmly once, and check that nothing is caught in the door seal. 3. Remove racks or pans that touch the door. 4. Switch the range off at its breaker for a minute, then restore power. 5. If F05 returns, avoid forcing the latch and call us.
The control needs a signal that the door is closed and latched. F05 points to the latch assembly, the door switch or their wiring, so the control is not getting that confirmation.
Do not rely on it. With F05 showing, the control may refuse to run, and forcing the door can damage the latch. Wait for a technician rather than working around the code.
Often it is less costly than control repairs, but we confirm the cause first. You get a written price before we start, and our work carries a 30-day workmanship warranty.
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
