On KitchenAid freestanding and slide-in ranges such as the KFEG500ESS, KFGG500ESS or KSEG700ESS, a plain F5 is listed as a problem with the oven door latch assembly, the door latch switches, or the wiring. The control watches those parts to know that the door is closed and locked. The display shows F5, and the door may stay locked or the oven may refuse to run.
1. Press Cancel and let the oven cool completely. 2. Open and shut the door firmly once, and check for anything in the seal. 3. Remove racks that may press on the door. 4. Take power off the range at the breaker, wait sixty seconds, then turn it on. 5. If F5 returns, do not force the door and call us.
Both point to the door latch and switches. F5 E0 names the door switch and F5 plain names the latch switches. We read the full display, then test the latch, the switches and the wiring.
Let the oven cool, press Cancel, and try a breaker reset. Do not pry the door. If it stays locked, call us and we will release and test the latch.
The latch is a safety part, so we treat it seriously. Avoid using the oven until the latch is tested. Gas smell? Get out and phone the gas utility from outside.
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
