KitchenAid KDRS462V Ignition Repair

The KDRS462V, also sold as the KDRS462VSS, is a discontinued KitchenAid range. A common complaint is a burner that clicks and clicks but never lights.
That usually means moisture or debris at the igniter, though a weak spark module can do the same. We clean and dry the igniter, check the burner cap seating and test the spark. On an electric version, we move to surface elements and infinite switches, and on any version we check door hinges, the gasket and the self-clean lock. A burner that will not light can also be a sign that the cap is sitting crooked, so we seat each cap properly before testing spark.
When gas can be smelled, do not touch switches; step outside and call the gas utility from there. We quote the price in writing first and our work has a 30-day workmanship warranty.
A wet or dirty igniter is the usual cause. After a boil-over, spills can bridge the electrode. We clean it, let it dry and test the spark. If it still clicks without lighting, the igniter or module may need replacement.
Do not keep trying if you smell gas. Turn the knob off, ventilate and call the gas utility from outside. Once it is safe, we can diagnose the igniter.
It will still work but waste heat and cook unevenly. We recommend replacing the gasket and checking the hinges to bring the door back to a snug close.
