KitchenAid KGSK901S Gas Range Service

A KGSK901S, sold also as the KGSK901SSS, has been through four recorded revisions, SSS00 through SSS03. We bring that up because a fan or fuse that fits one revision may not fit another, so the plate is the first thing we photograph.
The usual call is an oven that stopped after self-clean. We test the thermal fuse and, importantly, the cooling fan that should have kept the temperature in check. Where a convection fan is fitted, we listen for noise and check the blade and bearings. The lamp circuit, holder and door switch are tested as a small, separate job. On noticing a gas smell at any time, leave the house and call the gas utility from a neighbor’s driveway or the street. We always give you a written price before starting, and our workmanship is warranted for 30 days.
Look at the rating plate. It may read SSS00, SSS01, SSS02 or SSS03. We use that code to select the correct fan, fuse or board.
The thermal fuse may have opened to protect against overheating. We replace it only after checking the cooling fan for the airflow problem that triggered it.
A dry bearing or a rubbing blade usually causes that noise. We inspect both with the cover off, then lubricate, realign or replace the motor as needed, and we run the fan again to confirm the sound is gone.
