KitchenAid KDRU783V Hinge Repair

The KDRU783V, also sold as the KDRU783VSS, is a discontinued KitchenAid range where the oven door takes the most daily abuse. Hinges loosen, the gasket flattens and the front of the range starts to feel hot during long bakes.
We check how the door hangs and closes, then test the gasket for gaps. After the door we examine the lock that engages during self-clean, the control board relays and the touch panel with its clock. A relay that fails typically takes out one function and leaves the others normal, which makes the problem confusing until the board is tested. We also test the door switch that tells the control the door is closed, since a weak switch can mimic a lock or board problem.
Our price is written before work starts, and repairs carry a 30-day workmanship warranty.
Heat leaking around the door is the usual cause. Worn hinges and a flattened gasket let it escape into the room, so we adjust the hinges and replace the gasket where it has gone flat.
Sometimes the display connection simply needs to be reseated, and that is a quick fix. When the panel itself has failed, we replace it after testing board voltage to confirm that the board is sending the correct signal to it.
The door may stay latched, or it may not latch at all. Either way, the oven should not be self-cleaned until the lock motor and switch are tested and repaired, because a half-working lock can leave the door open during a hot cycle.
