KitchenAid KCES550H 30-Inch Electric Cooktop Repair

The KCES550H is a 30-inch electric cooktop with a glass surface and five elements, so it fits the standard cutout in a kitchen counter or island. Its largest element is a 10-inch/6-inch double ring, and that one gets the hardest use: a big stockpot sits on it for hours, then a small pan takes over. Also sold as KCES550HSS.
The double ring has a bridge that lets you light only the inner ring or both together. When the outer ring stays dark or the element heats on one side only, we measure each ring separately and test the knob switch that feeds it. Metal knobs keep wearing on their shafts, so a loose or slipping knob is checked at the same visit.
Glass takes scratches from rough pot bottoms. We tell you plainly whether a mark is cosmetic. Written price first, 30-day warranty after.
Often only the outer ring or its bridge connection has failed. We test the two rings separately with a meter and the switch that controls them, so you do not pay for a full element when one ring is the problem.
The repair steps stay the same. We simply keep the front-mounted controls and indicator working as designed, so the cooktop remains easy to operate once we reassemble it and test every element.
Light scratches are usually cosmetic. A deep scratch or chip can become a crack as the glass heats and cools. We look at the damage under good light and tell you whether the glass is safe to keep using.
