The KitchenAid freestanding and slide-in ranges, such as the KFGG500ESS and KSEG700ESS, may display F1 E5 when the oven control or its wiring needs attention. The display shows F1 E5 where the clock normally appears, and the keypad may seem to ignore your presses. Because the control manages every oven function, bake, broil and self-clean may all be unavailable until the code is dealt with.
1. Press Cancel and wait a few seconds. 2. Switch the range off at the breaker for a full minute. 3. Turn the power back on and set the clock. 4. Run a short bake to see whether the oven heats. 5. If you smell gas on a gas model, go outdoors and call the gas utility. 6. If F1 E5 returns, stop and call us.
The meaning is the same group as the other F1 codes, the oven control or its wiring. The E5 suffix is a reading we record, and it helps us decide where to begin.
It clears the clock and timers only. Your cooking programs on most ranges are simple to set again, so a reset is a low-risk first step.
Not by itself. Just stop using the oven once it repeats. If there is any smell of gas, that changes the situation: leave the house and call the gas utility from outside.
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
