KitchenAid over-the-range microwaves like the KMHS120ESS, KMHC319ESS and KMLS311HSS can show E22 when the thermal sensor, the appliance control board, or the wiring may have a problem. A temperature sensor tells the control how hot the cavity or hood area is. Lose that and the microwave will usually stop and wait for a reset.
1. Cancel the program. 2. Open the door and let the unit rest for ten minutes. 3. Check that the air vents are free of grease. 4. Pull the plug for a minute and reconnect. 5. If E22 reappears, call us.
Over-the-range microwaves sit above cooking surfaces, so they also monitor temperature to protect themselves. Heavy use can stress the sensor.
It can influence a reading, but a lasting code means the sensor or board needs a check.
Your range is unaffected. The code concerns only the microwave.
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
