Ice Maker Repair in Houston

Built-in ice makers and refrigerator ice systems both struggle with Houston water. When cubes are small, cloudy, slow or missing, we trace the problem from the fill line to the tray and the cooling side.

Common ice maker problems we fix

In the order we see them across Houston homes.

01

02

Cubes small, hollow or stuck together

04

Water leaking beneath the ice maker

05

06

Loud grinding or buzzing during harvest

KitchenAid ice makers come in two broad forms: the self-contained under-counter units built into cabinetry, and the ice systems inside refrigerators and freezers. Both make ice by filling a mold with water, freezing it, then releasing it into a bin, so they share many of the same parts.

In Houston, water is the usual enemy. Mineral scale coats the inlet valve screen, builds up in the mold and cuts the flow, producing cubes that are small or fused together. A filter that has gone past its life makes it worse, and a supply line that is pinched behind the unit does the rest.

We begin at the water supply, check the filter and line, then test the fill valve, the mold, the sensor and the drain or dispenser mechanism. Cleaning and descaling are included in the visit when they are part of the answer.

05Ice Maker questions
Why does my ice taste strange?

Ice absorbs odors from food and from an old filter or dirty bin. Replacing the water filter, cleaning the bin and discarding the old ice usually helps. If the taste persists, we check the water line and tray.

How often should the water filter be changed?

Manufacturers commonly suggest about every six months, and Houston's mineral-heavy water often makes a filter clog sooner. A slow fill and small cubes are good signs that it is time.

Can you repair a built-in under-counter ice maker?

Yes. We service the water inlet, drain pump, ice mold, sensors and the cooling system, and we confirm the drain and water supply as part of every visit.
