On KitchenAid built-in microwaves and combination ovens such as the KMBP100ESS or KOCE500ESS, a door message in the display means the door has stayed closed five minutes or more without a cycle being started. The oven does this on purpose to avoid unintended operation. This is a protective prompt, not a breakdown. The oven will start normally once the door sequence is repeated.
1. Open the door fully and close it again. 2. Choose your cooking program and press Start within five minutes. 3. Check that nothing, such as a dish rim or plastic wrap, keeps the door from latching. 4. If the message returns even right after you press Start, note it and call us.
Once the door has been shut for five minutes with no cycle started, the oven asks for a fresh door action. It is a safeguard against accidental starts.
Not if opening and closing the door clears it. If the message appears immediately during normal use, the door switches may be misreading, and a technician should check them.
A door that does not close squarely can confuse the switches. Look for debris around the seal and latches; if the door visibly sags or does not click, book a visit.
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
