A freezer drawer or door that stays slightly open lets in humid air and builds frost fast. Check these common causes before the food is at risk.
A freezer that does not close flush is more than a nuisance. In a humid city like Houston, even a small gap lets moist air pour in, and the moisture turns to frost on food and walls. The gap also makes the compressor work much harder.
Frost can build up on the rails, the gasket or the cabinet lip until the drawer cannot seat. Remove the food, unplug the unit and let the ice melt completely. Keep towels handy for the water. Do not chip ice with a metal tool. Once it is dry, wipe the gasket and the rails and run a thin layer of food-safe lubricant only if the manual recommends one.
Packing food above the basket line is the most common reason. Reorganize so the top surface sits below the rim, and keep a few inches of open space around the vents for air to move.
If the drawer still will not close with a clean seal and a level cabinet, a track, hinge or bracket may be damaged. Do not force it, as plastic parts crack and make the gap worse. Meanwhile, move the contents to another freezer to prevent thawing.
We can replace worn seals, tracks and rollers so the drawer closes tightly again. Describe the sticking drawer on the freezer repair visits page, check that your street appears on the service area map, and reserve a 9-12, 1-4 or 4-7 arrival window. The written price comes before any seal or roller work, and the 30-day workmanship warranty protects the new parts we install.
