On KitchenAid induction cooktops such as the KICU509XSS, F8 means the surface cooking area has been in operation too long and the automatic shutoff has stepped in. It is a safety feature, not a breakdown. Turn the area off, take the utensils away and let the zone rest, and the cooktop is ready to use again. Owners often notice it after a long simmer, a forgotten pot or a pan left on the zone while a pan is moved.
1. Turn off the surface cooking area. 2. Remove utensils from the zone. 3. Wait for F8 to clear and the glass to cool. 4. Restart the zone; if F8 shows up after short use, call us. 5. Check that nothing is resting on the touch keys, since a pressed key can keep a zone running.
It is a safety shutoff for zones that run very long. The cooktop assumes the zone may have been forgotten and powers it down, showing F8 to tell you why.
That depends on the heat setting. Higher settings trigger the shutoff sooner than lower ones. If you cook for hours on a low setting, simply restart the zone when it shuts off.
Then the shutoff may be tripping early. Tell us the setting and how long it ran. We can check the control and give you a written price for any fix.
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
