KitchenAid KCGC558H Commercial-Style Gas Rangetop with Griddle

A KCGC558H is a wide gas rangetop that normally sits in a cutout on a run of base cabinets, with a hood overhead and the gas line coming up through the cabinet floor. Because it is also sold as the KCGC558HSS, owners sometimes search under either number; both are the same rangetop to us.
With a griddle beside the open burners, grease and boiled-over sauce reach the igniters and burner ports faster than on a plain cooktop, and that is where age shows. We start by pulling the caps and heads, cleaning the ports, and checking the spark at each igniter. Then we look at the griddle burner flame, the valves and the knobs. If you ever smell gas, leave the house and call the gas utility from outside before you call us.
The igniter is usually coated with spills, or the cap is sitting off-center so the spark never reaches the gas. We clean and reseat first, then test the spark module and the valve if it still fails.
We look at the griddle burner flame pattern, clean the ports, and confirm the plate sits flat on its supports. Uneven flame or a partly blocked port is the usual cause, and we show you what we found.
If there is no gas odor, usually yes. A burner that will not light is not leaking by itself, but if you smell gas at any time, shut off the supply, leave the house and call the utility from outside.
