KitchenAid KECC501G 30-Inch Radiant Cooktop Repair

The KECC501G is a 30-inch electric cooktop with radiant elements under ceramic glass. It was offered in the base number and as KECC501GAL, KECC501GBL3 and KECC501GWH, all sharing one layout. Because the elements sit directly beneath the glass, a thermal limiter monitors the temperature, and that limiter is what we suspect when a zone clicks off sooner than it should.
A zone that is completely dead while its neighbors run is a different path. We start at that zone’s switch, move to the terminal block, and finish by measuring the element itself, so only the failed piece is replaced. The opposite case, a zone locked at full heat, is nearly always a switch that stuck closed.
Cracks across the glass take the cooktop out of use until it is dealt with. We quote the repair in writing, and our work is covered for 30 days.
The limiter under the glass is probably tripping because heat is not leaving the glass evenly. We test its operation and the element's contact with the glass before deciding which one to replace.
The infinite switch has welded shut. Turn the breaker off to cool the zone. We confirm the cause with a meter and replace only the switch that failed.
For electrical parts it does not, since the elements, switches and limiters are shared. We check the number on the rating plate to match the glass and trim correctly.
