KitchenAid KECC507H Cooktop Troubleshooting

The KECC507H is an older cooktop, also sold as KECC507HSS, and most of the work we do on it comes from age rather than a single defect. Insulation hardens, shafts wear, and a downdraft that once cleared steam quietly stops pulling. On versions with a downdraft we start with the vent: motor, blower wheel and damper.
A flame that goes out on the lowest setting calls for the gas valve test. If you smell gas at any time, leave the house and call the gas utility from outside. We never relight a burner until that has been dealt with.
With the cooktop lifted, we look at wire ends for darkening and at the knob shafts for slop. Each finding goes into a written price before we touch a part, and the repair has our 30-day workmanship warranty.
Grease builds on the blower wheel and in the duct, and the damper door can stick. We clean the path, test the motor, and move the damper by hand to see whether it binds or just needs cleaning.
Not by itself, but a loose knob can leave the switch in a different position than you expect. We check the shaft and switch, and replace the worn part so the setting matches the mark.
We lift the cooktop and look for dark terminals, stiff insulation and loose lugs. Those are early signs. Fixing them now is cheaper than repairing a burnt connection later.
