On KitchenAid electric radiant touch-control cooktops such as the KCES550HSS or KECC664BSS, F2 shows while a surface cooking area is still too hot. Remove the pans and the F2 goes away when the area has cooled. If you turn the area back on and F2 reappears, the cooktop is still too hot for that setting, so it protects itself. It is one of the few cooktop messages that is purely informational.
1. Take the pans off the cooking area. 2. Wait until F2 clears and the glass feels cool. 3. Switch the area back on only when the display is clear. 4. If F2 stays when the glass is cold, call us.
It behaves like a warning. It tells you the cooking area is too hot to restart and clears when the area cools. Only a code that never clears suggests a problem.
The area is still above the safe temperature, so the cooktop refuses to heat again. Give it more time to cool before trying. Pulling the pan off earlier also helps, since a pan keeps trapping heat in the glass below.
If the glass is cold and F2 remains, or it appears quickly at normal use, the temperature sensing may be wrong. We would test it on site.
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
