Some KitchenAid electric radiant touch-control cooktops, among them the KECC664BSS, show F12 with a different meaning from the hotplate version: an internal communication error on the touch control module. The control's parts have lost their link, so the touch panel and the power side no longer agree. You see F12, and the cooktop may stop answering your touches. Because two different readings share this code, we confirm which one applies before quoting.
1. Turn off every cooking area and let the glass cool. 2. Cut the cooktop's breaker for about a minute and restore it. 3. Observe the display for a full minute. 4. If F12 appears again, do not use the cooktop and ask us to look at it.
KitchenAid uses F12 for two readings on radiant cooktops: a hotplate or wiring problem, and a touch control communication error. We check which one fits your model and what the cooktop is doing.
If one area will not heat but the keys work, an element or wiring is likely. If the keys are dead or erratic, the communication link is the better bet.
It is the right first step for a communication error. If the code stays away for a minute, use the cooktop normally. If not, a technician needs to test the control.
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
