KitchenAid Smoothtop Cooktop Code FC RF: right front area, element or wiring

What FC RF means

On KitchenAid electric radiant touch-control cooktops, such as the KCES550HSS or KECC664BSS, FC RF indicates a possible problem with the right front hotplate (cooking surface, burner or element) or its wiring. The right front area will not heat properly, and the code shows on the display. The matching codes for the other positions are FC LF, FC LR and FC RR on induction models. Owners notice a cooking area that stays cold while the rest of the cooktop may carry on as normal.

Common causes of FC RF

The right front radiant element has burned out
Wiring or a connector to that element is damaged
A limiter or terminal for the element has failed
The control cannot power that area

1. Turn all cooking areas off and let the glass cool. 2. Check the glass for cracks near the right front area. 3. Reset the cooktop breaker for a minute. 4. If FC RF comes back, stop using that area and call us.

Is only the right front area affected?

That is the one the code names. The other areas may still heat, but we check them as well because a shared control or supply can be involved.

Can a radiant element be replaced?

Yes, in most cases. We confirm the part for your model, quote it in writing and replace it. If the glass has cracked, we discuss that separately.

Why does the code not name a part?

The cooktop only knows that the area failed to draw power as expected. It could be the element, the terminal or the wiring, and testing sorts that out.
