What F22 means

KitchenAid electric radiant touch-control cooktops, for example the KCES550HSS, give F22 for an internal communication error on the touch control module. The touch side and the power side of the control cannot exchange information, and the cooktop reacts with the code. Expect keys that do nothing or a cooktop that will not heat until power is reset. It reads the same way as F03 and F13 on these cooktops.

Common causes of F22

  • A communication glitch that a reset can clear
  • A touch control module that has lost its link to the board
  • Interference from a power disturbance
  • A connection under the glass that is loose or corroded
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Switch all cooking areas off. 2. Turn the breaker off for about a minute, then back on. 3. Watch the display for a minute to confirm the code is gone. 4. If F22 appears again, leave it and call us.

! Why to stop there
  • The module sits under the glass and runs on line voltage.
  • Replacing it correctly means matching the right part to your model.
  • The price is quoted before we start, and a 30-day warranty follows.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

F22F22 questions
What is the touch control module?

It is the electronics behind the glass keys that read your touches and pass them to the power board. F22 means the two sides cannot talk to each other.

Will F22 damage my cooktop?

A communication error itself does not usually harm the cooktop, but it can leave it unusable. A repeating one deserves a repair before another part is affected.

Is wiping the glass going to help F22?

Cleaning is harmless but unlikely to help, since F22 is about internal communication rather than a held key. A reset is the right first move.
