What Power Level Lower Than Level Requested means

KitchenAid induction cooktops, including the KCIG550 and KICU509 series, can run a zone at a lower power than the one you selected. The power regulator limits the levels to the maximum value set for the whole cooktop, and the cooktop also holds a minimum power level on its own. What you notice is slower heating or a lower level than the number you pressed, with no error beep.

Common causes of Power Level Lower Than Level Requested

  • The combined power of all active zones reached the maximum the cooktop is set to allow.
  • Several zones or boost functions are running together and the regulator is sharing the available power.
  • The cooktop applied its automatic minimum level for the function in use.
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Count how many zones and boost functions are running at once. 2. Turn off a zone you are not using and see whether the other level rises. 3. Avoid starting boost on several areas together. 4. Use the right-size pan for each area. 5. If one zone alone still stays low, switch the cooktop off for a minute and try again.

! Why to stop there
  • Power limiting by design is not damage, and a new part would behave the same way.
  • Switching off an unused zone is free and often enough.
  • A zone that stays low on its own deserves a proper measurement.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.

Power Level Lower Than Level RequestedPower Level Lower Than Level Requested questions
Why is my cooktop heating less than the level I chose?

The power regulator caps total output at the cooktop maximum. With several zones or boost running, each zone can receive less than you asked for, so it feels slower than the number suggests.

Will turning off one zone help?

Often yes. Freeing up shared power lets the remaining zone climb toward the level you set. Try it with a single pan on one area to see whether it reaches full output.

Does this mean something is broken?

Not by itself. It becomes a service question when one zone on its own stays low. We check it, quote in writing first, and back the work with a 30-day warranty.
