On KitchenAid electric single, double and combination wall ovens such as the KODE500ESS or KOSE500ESS, F3 E5 points to the lower oven temperature sensor, the control, or the wiring that links them. The oven cannot read the lower cavity temperature properly. Owners see the code appear on the display, and the oven may refuse to start or finish a bake cycle until the reading problem is dealt with.
1. Press Cancel and let the oven cool completely. 2. Switch the oven's breaker off for one minute, then on again. 3. Start a short bake and watch whether F3 E5 comes back. 4. If it returns, stop using the lower oven and call us. Do not pull the oven out or open any panel.
The oven is reporting a problem with the lower oven temperature sensor, the control, or the wiring between them. In plain terms, it cannot trust the temperature reading from the lower cavity.
A breaker reset sometimes clears a one-time display, so it is worth trying once after the oven has cooled. If F3 E5 returns on the next cycle, the sensor circuit needs a technician's testing.
Do not count on it. The code concerns the lower oven sensor and the control, and the control may block cooking. Cancel the cycle and call us rather than forcing the oven to heat.
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
