On KitchenAid combination microwave-wall ovens, including the KOCE500ESS and KOCE507ESS, F4 E3 refers to the microwave exhaust air temperature sensor, or the wiring connected to it. The code concerns the upper microwave cavity. The display shows it in place of normal settings, and the microwave section may not run until it is addressed. Treat the microwave section as out of service until it has been tested, since the oven is unable to watch the temperature of the air it expels.
1. Press Cancel and clear the microwave cavity. 2. Make sure nothing blocks the oven's vents and the surrounding cabinet opening. 3. Turn the breaker off for a minute, then back on. 4. Try a short run with water. If F4 E3 appears again, call us.
It tracks the temperature of air leaving the microwave section. The control uses that reading to protect the oven, so a bad sensor or broken wire can post F4 E3.
Clear vents are worth a quick look because airflow affects temperature readings. The listed cause is still the sensor or wiring, so a repeat code needs testing.
We advise against it while F4 E3 keeps returning. The oven is protecting itself, and forcing cycles only adds heat to a section it cannot monitor.
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
