Double and combination wall ovens from KitchenAid, such as the KODE500ESS, show F5 E3 when the lower oven door latch assembly, the door switch, or the wiring may have a problem. This is about the lower oven's door. The code appears on the display, and the lower oven may not heat or lock during a cycle. Because the latch, the switch and the wiring are all named, the lower door circuit gets tested as one chain.
1. Press Cancel and shut the lower oven door completely. 2. Check the lower door frame for anything holding it open. 3. Reset power at the breaker for one minute. 4. If F5 E3 reappears, leave the lower oven off and call us. The upper oven can be tried separately if it shows no code.
The control tracks each oven's door on its own. F5 E3 points to the lower oven's latch assembly, door switch or wiring, so the upper oven may still work.
If it runs normally with no code, yes. Keep the lower oven off, because it may refuse to heat or may stop mid-cycle while its door circuit is reporting a problem.
Do not force it. Cancel, reset the breaker once, and call us if it still will not read as closed, so the latch is not damaged by pulling against it.
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
