KitchenAid KBRP20EL Refrigerator Service Visit

The KBRP20EL, also sold as the KBRP20ELSS, has most often reached us with one of two stories: ice behind the freezer panel, or an ice maker producing less than it used to. The first points to the defrost parts, the second to water supply or the module.
For the frost, we remove the panel, measure how far it has spread, and test the defrost heater, thermostat and control. For the ice maker, we follow the water from valve to fill tube to mold and look for ice or a weak flow.
If all of that tests well and the cabinet still falls short, we examine the sealed system for a leak or restriction, and describe what repair would mean for a cabinet of this age. A door switch check is quick, so we do it as well. Written price first; 30-day workmanship warranty.
A stopped defrost cycle: the heater, thermostat or control is not working. We find which one, remove the buildup, and watch a cycle to be sure the evaporator now clears itself.
It may be the water instead. A fill tube that has frozen or a weak inlet valve reduces the fill. We check the water path first and then the module.
We look at the condition of the cabinet, the doors, the seals and the electronics, along with the testing results. Then we give you our honest view of whether repair is worthwhile.
