The microwave section of KitchenAid combination microwave-wall ovens, for instance the KOCE507ESS, can show F4 E1 when the thermistor, the appliance manager, or the associated wiring may have a problem. The code refers to the upper microwave cavity. You will see it on the display, and microwave cooking may stop or refuse to start. The microwave cavity is the only area named, so the lower oven is judged separately and should be used only if it shows no code of its own.
1. Press Cancel and take any food out of the microwave. 2. Turn the breaker off for about a minute, then on. 3. Run a short cycle with a cup of water. 4. If F4 E1 comes back, stop using the microwave and call us.
A thermistor is a temperature-sensing part. In the microwave cavity of a combination oven, the control uses it to follow temperature, so a bad reading or broken connection can trigger F4 E1.
It is the control that manages the microwave functions, so it can be the cause even when the thermistor is fine. We test both before quoting a repair.
The code concerns the upper microwave cavity. If the lower oven runs normally and shows no codes, use it carefully, and call us about the microwave.
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
