What Door Alarm means

On KitchenAid built-in refrigerators (KBSD, KBFN, KBBL, KBBR) such as the KBSD608ESS and KBFN502ESS, the Door Alarm sounds when a refrigerator door or freezer drawer stays open for 2 to 5 minutes, depending on the model, while cooling is on. It repeats every 2 minutes, and pressing any button mutes the sound while the icon stays lit. Older Architect side-by-side units use a longer 10-minute Door Open warning.

Common causes of Door Alarm

The older Architect model has a different timing, why?

Older Architect built-in side-by-sides flash a Door Open indicator and turn off the interior lights after a door has been open for more than 10 minutes. Newer built-ins alert much sooner.
