KCID936S

KitchenAid KCID936S Downdraft Induction Cooktop Service

KitchenAid cooktop

Most common issues on this model

  1. Downdraft vent blower that is weak, noisy or will not start
  2. Cooking zone that cuts out or never reaches heat with the right cookware
  3. Touch controls that ignore input or beep without response
  4. Cooling fan under the glass that runs loud or stalls and trips overheating shutoffs

The KCID936S combines induction elements with a downdraft vent, so it is typically installed in an island or a peninsula where there is no hood above. Under the glass sit the induction coils, their power electronics, and a duct running down to the blower, which is why we always check both halves of the unit.

On an older KCID936S the vent usually gives trouble before the cooking surface does: grease-loaded filters slow the air, and the blower motor starts to rattle. For the induction side we confirm that the pan is magnetic and flat, then test each zone, including the bridge zone, and listen to the cooling fan. The KCID936SBL is the same cooktop in another finish. We quote in writing first, and our work carries a 30-day workmanship warranty.

KCID936SKCID936S questions
My downdraft barely pulls any smoke. Is the blower finished?

Not necessarily. Greasy filters and a blocked duct restrict airflow long before a motor fails. We clean the filters, inspect the duct path, and only then test the blower itself.

Can a cookware problem make a zone shut off on this cooktop?

Yes. Induction needs a magnetic, reasonably flat pan that covers the marked area. A small or warped pan can make the zone cycle or refuse to heat, so we test with a known good pan before suspecting the cooktop.

What is the bridge zone for, and can it be repaired separately?

The bridge zone joins two areas so a long griddle pan or roasting dish heats evenly. If it fails while the others work, we check the coil connections and the control for that pair, not the whole cooktop.
